It's a good school in spirit but in all actuality it is to small; ITS TO EASY because we accept 95% of students even though many don't give a crap to be here; its poorly managed regarding residence life (housing for students is slim);scholarships for women, minorities, over-achievers regardless of race, and low income students are basically non-existent, and the student spirit is very low due to a dry campus policy, no greek life, no newspaper, a small student union, and a bedroom town setting. We have about 1% minority staff even though we want diversity and our Dean of Students idea of Diversity is something she saw in Dangerous Minds. Its a Catholic School but they don't offer any other services for Protestants or other Denominations. Our athletics have never made it to a championship due to the fact that we recruit from small towns instead of big city schools, PLUS our athletes have poor scholarships which is why many leave. If you willing to FORK up 40 grand a year and you wonder where the money goes then come to SMU! Good side is you have a religious outlet, small classes, and access to Seattle (but the majority of people don't want to drive there). I want it to be a GREAT college but its not cutting it. Give it a chance but its not the "center of academia and research" that it claims to be…MAYBE YOU CAN MAKE IT BETTER (because the monks poorly managed the school when it opened a hundred years ago!!!). If you want change the STUDENTS must do it because the FACULTY can show their incompetience the majority of the time.
