Firstly it only took me 1 year to finish my major courses, I spent a couple years at college and then transferred to UCSB and it's a really fast paced school 10 week quarters, sure it's a party school and it's tough if you don't "party" (ie, drink, smoke, surf, hookup, etc) but there's more than that, I knew a gal who didn't like to party, well she did fine and graduated in 2 years with honors. The environment at UCSB is a "chill" school, but a consistent academic rank of #44 is really above-par for a relaxed environment. People are nice, teachers are friendly, there's outdoor scenary. The only thing that got to me at this school was it "preached" politics and I don't think a school is supposed to preach heavily one-sides politics and for smart students, they practiced a lot of bad habits such as binge drinking and unsafe sex. Another thing to watch out is that the cops outnumber people in I.V., your almost guaranteed to get a ticket in your 4 years in I.V., I am thankful for what UCSB gave me and I enjoyed my time there, I think it is great if you spend two of the best years of your life there when your young, I don't think I could've done more than that. There are also many other activities to join such as intramural sports was great, but overall the party school reputation does stand and also very liberal and very open-minded reputation stands as well. UCSB however with it's growing reputation is also becoming a bigger school so just watch out for that, unlike the midsized school it used to be, it's going to increase it's numbers to match up with other UCs.
questionI am trying to decide whether I should go to UCSB or UCLA. I am a history major, and I am thinking about entering law after earning my undergraduate. Which school would better prepare me, and if so by how much. Is there a significant difference besides prestige? Thank you
