I read some of the negative comments about UCSB and I was saddened because they seem to speak of the lack of things to do around Santa Barbara (or the things one can do apparently get old fast). My understanding is this is not a lack on the side of the school or location, but on the part of those who fail to actively seek things to do. I am not an IV party-goer, nor do I go downtown, as is the "popular" thing to do. But I would never describe my time here as boring. Just as with any campus one goes to, it really is about what you make of it. We're in an amazing location that has beach, mountains, forests, city, LA, etc. all available to you. I did Hall Council stuff, I was an RA for a couple of years, I was on the campus' improv comedy troupe, I got involved in my church as the youth pastor… I had tons to do and as I'm graduating here in less than 3 weeks, I am only finding more and more to do (and realizing all that which I didn't get around to doing).
responseHey there! I'm a senior in high school right now, deciding between USD and UCSB. It looks like you're a Christian guy, who wasn't too interested in the thriving party scene at SB. I think I might be leaning towards SB, because it has a great program for my major and would put me out of my comfort zone (I want to grow in college).

I am just, honestly, so so worried that I will have a hard time finding people with the same values as me. I'm Christian as well, and I don't think partying makes someone a "bad person;" I just know there are much more honorable and better uses of one's time. Please let me know what your experience was like on weekend nights as a freshman. I would appreciate it so much
