I would not advise going to WSU for 4 full years.

I majored in Photojournalism and the department was outdated, underfunded, and basically a joke. I won't even get into how disappointing the photo classes were, but I have taken more challenging photo classes at community college. The professors have rigid standards for work that are extremely outdated and yet are extremely lenient towards students. They allow students to use digital point-and-shoot cameras and to have their film developed at walgreens. It's pathetic and really discouraging if you actually want to learn anything about photography at all. I came out not knowing much about darkroom and knowing nothing about digital photography. They don't even offer a digital photography course.

The school in general is the same. They want more students because that means more money.

The level of difficulty in classes is extremely low.

The level of intelligence of your classmates is even lower.

Most students come from surrounding towns and villages… Winona is the big city to them.

Winona itself… gorgeous, cool little town. Enough to keep you intrigued and feeling like you live in the past for about 2 years. You can walk everywhere you want to go. If you're into porches, co-ops, coffee, bonfires, biking and hiking this is the place for you. If you want to half-ass your way through a half-ass degree, WSU is the place for you.
