ASU is a high quality school with some advantages and disadvantages. Just like any large organization the administration is beauracratic and annoying. You are just a number to them, at least. Like any college most entry level classes are large lectures with hundreds of kids, but later you get into some really interesting small classes with instructors doing relevant research. That's the upside to ASU's huge size. Virtually every field is represented and students can get involved in research as an undergrad. Pretty much any kind of academic or extra-curricular activity is present, and the Tempe campus is beautiful. Tempe has a great, vibrant downtown, but if you're looking for more of a small residential college feel I would consider the ASU Polytechnic Campus in the East valley or ASU West in Glendale. They are still part of ASU, so your degree still has the name and they still have the same resources, but they are more like a small town college.
