I'm an Alaska resident and I transferred to APU in the fall of 07 from UAA. Before I was at UAA I went to the University of Portland. Both UP and UAA are very different from APU. APU is small, much smaller than my high school, with about 700 full time students. I'd actually expect that number to be smaller since on-campus residents tend to bunch together and the off-campus students don't hang around school after their classes.

The best part of this school is the student population and some of the teaching faculty who are very friendly and open. It's easy to make friends here and meet people.

Classes are generally pretty easy. I do less homework now than I did in high school or at other colleges. However, the quality of instruction has at times been lacking.

The absolute worst aspect of APu is living on campus. If you live in Anchorage, your best bet is to commute. If you live on campus you will probably have to eat the dreaded cafeteria food, which tastes like garbage baked in mold sauce. The administration also likes to make up rules on a whim, and since it's a small school they're really anal about small infractions. It's a "dry" campus, even if you're 21, and they like to issue tons of fines. The people running Residence Life and student affairs are a couple of do-nothing air heads. One section of housing didn't have laundry machines for a semester because of the clogged bureaucracy, and there's no one for students to talk to about their concerns.
