Kirksville is not exciting. This will not be the four most exciting years of your life. But to be honest, if university time is the most exciting time of your life then I am sorry that it is all downhill for you after 22.

You can make lifelong friends, keep in touch with professors a decade later, get as much attention as you want in the small classes. During my time in Kirksville, I did everything from host concerts to have a cross-disciplinary co-student-faculty dinner class on chaos theory.

In the end, you get out of it what you put into it. And this is probably more true in Kirksville than anywhere else. If you want to have an active social life handed to you on a plate, join the friendly Greek system. If you want to research a particular topic, hit up the professors - they are languishing in rural Missouri just as much as you are and aching for stimulation.

Ten years later, my classmates are all doing spectacular things as law school professors, editors, living abroad, designing microchips, you name it. Again, you get out of it what you put into it.
