John Brown is a fantastic school academically. I'm a Biblical and Theological studies major and I think the only place I could have possibly gotten a better education would be Biola in LA or Wheaton in Chicago.

The professors at JBU have all either a.) received their phd or are b.) in the middle of their dissertation. I believe it's part of the requirements to actually be on contract as a prof at JBU.

My adviser has his actually has his MA from Princeton and his Phd from Baylor so he is not just alumni given a job. He is always availible when I need to speak to him (even though he has weird office hours). But the advising staff always takes care of anything you need.

If you want to go to college to goof off and drink and party, do not come to JBU, considering you can't drink on cotract even if you are 21 until you are graduate or are no longer enrolled as a student. But screwing around at JBU is not an option. B's are difficult to come by even if you have spent HOURS studying for a class. The education is first class, the grading scale is extremely difficult 93%-100=A 92%-90%=A- and so on and so on. The A and the A- do not go into your gpa the same either. So your gpa will probably be a few tenths lower that it would be at another school. If you manage to graduate from JBU though, it is obvious to anyone who knows anything about colleges and academics, that you worked your butt off to get that degree even if the GPA is a little lower considering the grading scale.

Financially, JBU is one of the most expensive schools I looked into. I looked into urban private schools and they cost less than JBU. The financial aid office here is not the best. They have a knack for screwing things up, but also a knack for fixing what they've screwed up. They rarely LEAVE you hanging. Though JBU is expensive, you get what you pay for here. 30,000.00 is a good price for the education you receive. And they WILl give you aid. For the first two years, I was on 24,000.00 straight scholarships.

Overall, if you are looking for a great academic school that is going to prepare you for graduate school, John Brown is excellent.
