I had a 3.7 GPA in my computer science courses, and I was rejected from the CS department because I had a 3.3 in English. Do not come here unless you're already pre-admitted into your department. Basically if you can't get into the CS major (which is 2/3's of the matriculated students), you're banned from learning CS and can only take non-majors courses. I know people with similar GPA's who were rejected. It doesn't make sense… The courses do not require chem labs or something like that. They could teach online or provide more opportunity. These people are bastards.
responseAgree completely - excellent review. I hope you were able to transfer elsewhere.
responseWhat GPA do you need to get into the CS program? UW seems like the only decent in state option. How does its CS program compare to the programs at CU-Boulder, UC Davis, and Oregon?
responseUW CS department is a Microsoft mill. Like the poster said, only go if you're pre-admitted into the program from high school.
responseMicrosoft does tend to take a lot of CS grads, but you need a 3.7 to get into Microsoft from UW. The CS program here is really overrated. Check out Stanford, Illinois, Michigan, UC-Berkeley, Cal Tech, UCLA
