GMC is a very interesting little bubble, as most will tell you who have attended and managed to remain a part of it. The world around the college tends to seem to matter less because of the isolation and quiet of Vermont in general and Poultney specifically. There is a good sense of student community. While drug use is rampant, there are many other options of activities to partake in. I would suggest this school for anyone looking for a quirky, unique, small feel to their college. GMC is kind of a weird place and it can take some getting used to (some never quite appreciate its diverse qualities) But it has been a home to me for quite sometime and for many of the students there. If you are looking for a college that is more than a school then Green Mountain has a lot to offer. If pure academics and the appearance of your resume are your main motivations for seeking higher education then Green Mountain is not the place for you. If you are looking to learn, if the pursuit of actual knowledge (inside and outside of a classroom) is your goal then I would suggest at least looking at Green Mountain. The faculty are helpful, approachable, and understanding. Most of the faculty insists on using first names rather than Prof. or another title. The faculty is very qualified (don't believe the posters on this site who say to the contrary), and some of them make me scratch my head and wonder at why they remain at a small school in VT. They stay for the same reason that I and many others love this school: its unique community, its quirky way of doing things, and its calming atmosphere. Everything moves a little bit slower at GMC so if a fast paced exciting college is on your wish list look elsewhere.
