I came here expecting SU to live up to the hype it proclaims on its website and during tours. I expected a lot of active learning, small learning communities, teachers that really knew their stuff and taught it excitedly. I was wrong. The teachers and staff here ARE available but their methods are less than satisfying. Community based learning is not the reality here at SU, though class sizes may be small - lectures are generally scattered and boring, and the "core curriculum" that is a requirement for all SU students to take is a nightmare and in my experience have been poorly taught. The school seems to spend more money on fostering their new athletic programs instead of on their core instructors. Or good instructors for that matter. The university DOES, however, take an active role in the community, it encourages its students to give back to the world around them - I appreciate this.
