I attended SAU for a year and left the first chance I got because in my experience, many of the students and staff were so closeminded and judgemental, I found living there miserable. The campus and student body is very similar to a high school atmosphere—lots of rules and cliques and not many people around. It is a very conservative school, so if you have differing beliefs than the majority of the population there, be prepared to be ostracized as a "rebel." While some of the people are wonderful, kind, and fun, others are very judgemental and bully-like, all using religion as an excuse to put others down.

As far as the academics go, I had a very mixed experience. Some classes and professors were fantastic (Dr. Darling for psych. 100 was amazing). Others did not teach well or taught irrelevent things and gave a lot of busy work. Overall, it's probably like any other college with hit-or-miss courses.

The nearest "city" is Jackson and there are not many things to do. This is a good school for some who are conservative in their beliefs and are looking for a tight-knit community, but for others seeking diversity and independence, this is not your best option.
