I am currently a freshman at GMU, from out of state. GMU is a good school, depending on your classes the academics can range from challenging to pretty easy. It really depends on how you can manage your time and learn how to accomadate to your professors style of teaching. GMU has a nice campus with shuttles that can get you almost anywhere you need to go for free, there is also the cue bus which is the local fairfax bus (this is free also). If you are an out of state student your going to want to make friends right off the bat, it really becomes like a ghost town around here on the weekends. If your a guy, join a frat or else parties are going to be almost impossible for you to get into, it's also easier for girls. Contrary to other reviews, the people here are friendly, it just depends on how you put yourself out there. I have made several friends just by walking to class and starting up conversations. Their are plenty of places to go to eat, but it is mostly unhealthy and insanely overpriced (even with a meal plan). Academics are not challenging for me, but it really depends on your major. Parking is a mess, but that goes for pretty much anywhere. And even if they tell you it's not-Mason is a huge commuter school, 3/4 of the student body does not live on campus. Though this is a good school, I plan on transfering out for next year.I don't like the environment and would prefer to go to school in a city environment, this just isnt the school for me. When you are applying to college make absolutely sure that you really want to go to the school that you pick, I didnt do this. Mason is ok, it's just not for me. If you have even the slightest doubts about your choice put some serious thought before you send out your deposit.
