In my two years here, Roanoke College has been a fantastic institution for fostering my growth as an individual and as a student. Both the faculty as well as the student population are very friendly and approachable, always waving hello to another member of the community they recognize on and off campus. While a lack of ethnic diversity is somewhat of an issue, there is certainly not one "cookie-cutter" type of Roanoke student. A wide variety of campus registered organizations from Intramural sports to religious organizations to a Harry Potter club, there is certainly a niche for everyone. As far as academics go, Roanoke was recently ranked among the "Sweet 16" of hardest schools to earn a grade of A in along with Princeton, MIT and Cal-Fullerton. Professors truly challenge students to go above and beyond to learn both inside and outside of the classroom. This is not to say, however, that professors are unapproachable. I've never had a professor at Roanoke who is not willing to make as many appointments as necessary to accommodate a student who is struggling in a course, however, it is up to you as the student to take the initiative. Many professors even give out their home and cell phone numbers for students to reach them outside of schedules class time. Overall, I generally could not be more pleased with experience I have had at Roanoke thus far.
