Sonoma is an amazing school. The campus is gorgeous and the faculty are amazing. From my perspective SSU is really good for a specific type of people, and I just am not included in that. It is small, and very liberal arts directed. The city Rohnert Park, is very small and family oriented, not exactly your ideal college town. Being from Los Angeles and going to a very big high school made the transition to a "slower" northern California life very difficult. I am not putting SSU down at all because the classes are great and my experiences with the university services have been nothing less than phenomenal. The students on the other hand, do have a tendency to be cliquey (which is found everywhere, and didn't we all thing that would change when we left high school?) but of course there are exceptions to everything. The housing is amazing. As a sophomore, I am living in a 4 bedroom 4 bathroom townhouse ON CAMPUS. There are 5 of us and we have a full kitchen, living room, wifi, and its such a close walk to the buildings. I would definitely suggest visiting SSU and talking to students you just see around NOT just the tour guides. It is important to get a full view of the university. The school is about an hour away from San Francisco, which makes day tripping very convenient. Although there is not much to do in Rohnert Park the surrounding cities have lots of opportunities and the RESLIFE office does a great job of letting the students know through email. It just takes awhile to get acquainted with the area, a few times lost in on the back roads through the ranches of Petaluma then you'll be good to go. As for getting involved, I didn't find it particularly difficult but you do need to put yourself out there. Go to the club days and just make connections with people because that's the only way you're going to find out about things. :]]
