I have studied Computer Science and Engineering for three times here as an international student and it was just plain awesome. Not all the teachers are very updated on their fields but you'll learn a lot from the ones that are on the bleeding edge.

The city has been the US top safest for a few years and there are some of the nicest beaches of the country just a 10 min bike ride far away. The city in general is pretty relaxed and easy to fit in.

Food is not quite cheap, hard to expect cheap prices in the OC but some times you'll find that off-campus food might be even cheaper which is a bit unacceptable for us tight-budget students.

I agree. The whole UCI campus is great and it's really easy to fit in. There used to be a problem with a big Zionist presence on campus, but a lot of students (and professors!) are anti-imperialist, so we organized and let the Zionists know that they aren't welcome here. Things have gotten a lot better. Diversity is now a reality, not just a motto, and the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) are respected by the administration. UCI is a great place to be a student!
commentI wasn't really considering UCI very seriously (UCSD is a better "second-tier" UC), but I am very progressive, and the whole anti-Zionist vibe sounds really appealing. I'm going to check it out!
