Like many of the other reviews have said: fine another school to go to; there are plenty in the region. I honestly don't know where to being with Wayne State. I came in as a transfer from a Canadian school because it was a cheap(er) option. I have been sorely disappointed with Wayne and am transferring ASAP.

The campus is a literal mess. I don't know who they put up to design some these buildings, but a lot of them look like they were designed by either a five year old or a priest. Aside from that, the parking spots in the lots and strctures are tiny and its very easy to hit someone's car when you get out. Don't be surprised to find graffiti anywhere and everywhere you go. It's a commonplace thing. With all that said, my biggest issue with the campus are the bathrooms. They don't regularly clean the bathrooms aside from the ones in the Welcome Center (you know the place they try to sell the school at), which means toilets are often overflowing or stink beyond measures.

There is also one real hangout spot on campus, and it just so happens its the only real library on campus. THere are three other libraries, but they are geared towards certain faculties and there is very little quiet study space in general.

The student population is extremely clicky. Most of them come from area high schools, so they already have their "crews" set when they come into Wayne. A lot of them are not open to making new friends or talking to people they don't know. Aside from that, they don't really give a crap about other's needs as they will often talk loudly or even play loud music in quiet study areas.

Obviously, this being a school in Detroit, there are safety issues. You routinely hear of people getting robbed or mugged, and there is gang activity near one of the campus parking structures. There is a large police system at Wayne, but I have never seen or heard or read about them arresting anyone for any crimes. Most of the time, they sit in the heart of campus, where safety isnt an issue, while students keep getting robbed and mugged on the outskirts of campus.

The educational quality is what you expect from a university that is as easy to get into as Wayne, which is poor. WHile the professors I have had here are pretty good, the issue is that you have graduate assistants teaching 3000 level (junior year) courses or further. Many of these GAs are both foreign and don't know much at all aside from the set curiculum, which means you can't expect to learn anything more than they are suppose to teach you.

The faculty of engineering is another mess. The equipment in the labs are seriously out-dated. I once had a lab partner burn his hand because a wall socket fused on his hand. A lot of times you are told to skip parts of a lab manual simply because they don't have enough material to perform that section. All of this happens while the school spends millions replacing computers that do no need replacing and renovating the chemistry building that was fairly new to begin with. In short, Wayne State doesn't give a crap about its engineering program. Its nationally known for its Medicine, Science and Law programs and that's where the university spends its money.
