I am yet another alumni unsatisfied with Hillsdale. I work a job that a college degree isn't needed for…a clerk at a big box retailer. The career planning office at Hillsdale is indeed completely useless, as others have said. I hate that I've got all this student loan debt to pay off, yet I have a job that I could have gotten with a high school diploma.

responseWhy didnt you go to grad school or follow up with vocational training. Also your predicament is not unique to your college. Everyone is expereincing it at colleges across the country. Not to put down your field of study, I love history and everyone should study it in college beyond the freshman/sophomore years even if not majoring in it, but history art history is not gong to lend you a job in a Fortune 500 Co. Have you applied to museums or looked into art galleries?
Best wishes to you.
responseYeah, It was stupid of you to borrow money to purchase a history degree if you weren't planning on using it to teach or be a professor. That's your bad. The career planning office can't work miracles. They probably offered to hook you up with a sales job or something but you undoubtedly turned up your nose at having to (gasp!) actually work hard. You think your degree entitles you to a good job but it doesn't. That isn't Hillsdale's fault.
