I was born and raised in Rutland, 20 minutes away from Castleton. i've been involved with the music department here since i was in 5th grade, my brother attended Castleton for his freshmen year, and now i am a sophmore who is counting down the days until the application process begins for the spring semester of 2015 so i can apply to actual universities and get away from this college. Castelton is essentially paradise for lazy pot smokers who want to go through life with absolutely no ambition and only want to take the easy way out of everything. This entire college, and i use the term college lightly, has great potential, but they let anyone who managed to barely graduated high school in. people here are some of the most close-minded self absorbed people i've ever met. i don't want to say all, but most are. it's probably because the majority of them still have a high school mentality. the dorms are DISGUSTING. the only dorms that are nice are Castleton hall, Hoff, and the houses, other than that, the rest are falling apart and were built in the 1960's/70's with barely, if any renovations, and are probably not fit for human dwelling. on the weekends, everyone goes home. so it is a ghost town, and a really depressing one. some students and professors try to make the weekends worthwhile, but very few people on this campus have any ambition to do anything other than smoke pot, and if you're interested in trying to find a worthwhile relationship, forget it. a good chunk of people already have a significant other who is at least 2 to 5 years older than them and they live off campus anyway. Academically. the work is not very challenging. if you do the bare minimum, you can pass most classes with at least a C+. With that being said, the professors, at least in my experience, are really insightful and full of real world knowledge and experiences that make them very respectable. i actually think the majority of them are over qualified to teach at Castleotn. you may not learn a lot on paper, but you can potentially learn a lot about bettering yourself. Castleton does have beautiful scenery and a great running trail, but honetly, it is not worth the price of admission to come here, especially for out of state students. if you are an ambitious student with any intention of being with open-minded intelligent students. Do not come to Castleton State College.
