I wish I could tell you that CSUN is a good school and worth the cash, but the problem is that, taken as a whole, it's a crappy place to be.

I came here from a small, private high school, and when I told my parents that I had no idea of what I wanted to major in, they advised me to either take a year off or go to CSUN. I went to CSUN for two semesters before transferring to a small, liberal arts college to study biology (I now work have a career in environmental management), and let me assure you, the difference in the quality of education, students, facilities and career prospects between the two schools was night and day.

CSUN is a public university that will take just about anyone, and most students here don't care at all. They don't do their homework, come up with excuses, and are late to class, which is distracting to anyone who cares about their education. Some say that working takes up time, but hey, I also had an on campus job, and I made the time. Also, there is a strong anti-white sentiment on campus (and whites are not the majority here), so you'll become accustomed to be hated on.

Some professors here really care, but others are downright racist and will favor students of their own background. Don't think that the Asian professors don't think more highly of other Asians. This is completely obvious and unfair. Other professors seem burned out from the students and just want to leave. This is a contrast to the liberal arts university that I attended, where professors were kind, loved teaching, and bent over backwards to help students.

Finally, due to budget cuts, it takes people forever to leave this university. A four year degree will take 6 years or more, and, guess what, an education here simply isn't worth the cost. It's basically a school that doesn't foster critical thinking, and might just condemn it's students to shitty jobs.

Come here for one year, maybe two tops, then transfer.
