Everyone (including faculty) is very liberal. I overheard people complaining about the government having to hire a company to do something. And the group was outraged. They feel as if gov has to do everything.

LACCD rushed 5 construction projects at once, and the students are suffering that consequence having to walk around barred areas.

Best community college in LA... by default....
Blind people walking everywhere. Helpful faculty.
Website and social events and planning is poor. No matter how much they complain and think they should have an awesome campus, I still see a flyer for an event that happened a year ago. Nobody cleans the classified sections. ASO won't think for themselves. They need commands. They are like a robot.

I came to LACC with a vague idea of what I wanted to do. I fell into their Photography Department and really flourished. The instructors and lab techs all do great work. The chair of the program and many professors graduated from top art schools, such as Art Center, and demand highly technically proficient work. I was very challenged in many of my photo classes -- they pushed me further with every assignment and each critique.

However, the school is grossly under funded. They've canceled Winter session altogether. The photo department is practically falling apart. My first semester there, we couldn't even use the labs for several weeks due to construction and the whole class fell way behind. The instructors and equipment is centered around film photography, which is simply outdated if you're trying to be a commercial photographer. While, they have digital equipment, it isn't as emphasized as I believe it should be.

The entire campus is falling apart as well, almost to a beautiful extent. It's very retro and great for taking pictures. Don't expect cleanliness. Do expect instructors who give a damn and will go the extra mile for you. I'm glad I went to LACC but I had to transfer to ELAC because they canceled to many photo dept. classes. ELAC is incredibly different, much more modern, far better facilities. If you are interested in photography as a career option, I recommend to going there or SMC. I will miss LACC -- I loved my instructors and had made a decent amount of friends. I really liked the other photo majors. My classes were competitive but still friendly. I wish this school had more funding because it has great potential.
