I admit it: Georgia Tech sucked.Biology
I admit it: Georgia Tech sucked. The school drained the life right out of me. What I found amazing, though, was how it prepared me SO WELL for medical school. Because I had no social life and was generally miserable at Tech, the jump to Medical School was not a difficult one at all. To the contrary, while other students were struggling with the workload and having difficulty adapting to studying all the time, I found that it was not much different from my undergrad years. Don't get me wrong; medical school is definitely harder than Tech. The point is, Tech prepared me better than most of my peers. I also found that fellow Tech grads performed better as residents, and tended to make fellow status or attending status quicker than others (with a few exceptions). All in all, I don't regret going to Tech. If you had asked me the same thing 10 years ago, I would have told you to go somewhere else. Stick with it; it will be worth it. You won't be any smarter than the other kids....you will just be more disciplined.

Question
The campus has a rural feel but it'sQuite BrightMechanical Engineering
The campus has a rural feel but it's in the heart of a fun city. Their is so much to do on campus, organizations, options classes, greeklife, intermurals and co-op/interning that it never gets boring. The classes are extremely challenging and require a full effort. However the benifit from this is that students- if they try- actually learn the material instead of just quick memorizing it. This quality gives Tech a great reputation and makes it easy to find employment- even in bad economic conditions.

Question
-Georgia Tech is well known for engineering mostlyQuite BrightEconomics
-Georgia Tech is well known for engineering mostly in the South. Even worse, a non-engineering degree from Tech is worthless in any other part of the country. No one seems to what kind of school Tech is, other than that it has a football/basketball program.

-Coursework is quite challenging if you're the sort who likes to mix a social life with your academic life. If you want to do well, expect to spend 10+ hrs/wk on classwork and study on top of everything else.

-Greek life provides somewhat of a social scene by helping out with the men/women ratio. Other than that, expect to go downtown for a decent night life. The male/female ratio is completely out of whack...unless you're a female student.

-You will know within the first week of a common saying that in your dorm room, the guy on your left and on your right will drop out by the end of the first year. Attrition rate is very high during the first two years. The people who'd hung around until graduation will most likely find a decent engineering job. Other than engineering and CS, don't have high expectation if you move out of the South, i.e. NY, New England, West Coast, etc.,.

-Professors are hit and miss, some will help, some are elusive, some will brush you off with indirect answers or refer to a graduate assistant, some just plain don't care if you pass or fail. All will expect your highest intellect to be devoted to their class, just as you are expected to hold your own with some very smart kids.-Overall, if engineering is your cup of tea and you have the patience of working through 4-5 yrs of challenging work, you will certainly learn a few things about engineering. If you are the liberal arts or management type, I suggest another school that is more rewarding and better known in these categories.
