Washburn University

I was one of the few international students that attended Washburn University and was very pleased with the education I was given because of the small class sizes and access to the faculty that helped me whenever I was challenged and needed outside help.Many of my professors became mentors and made my experience enjoyable. For the most part my professors were excellent educators.

Like anywhere else,some students did not belong to be on a University campus; the reality is that they eventually leave or pass their time until they figure out something for themselves. I can tell that many of my classmates went to top quality graduate school programs throughout the United States and have done very well.

If you think Washburn is a low grade university,You have not seen what a low grade University is. Be thankful for the opportunity to being admitted without a daunting admission process, and make the best of your talents and gifts because your future maybe riding on the decisions you make at becoming a Bod!

Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: B-

I came to Washburn University because of the generous scholarships. Washburn does have open enrollment, so there are some people that probably don't belong in a post-secondary environment. Although, this can be good for people that are not near-high school flunkees because they do offer generous scholarships for people with decent GPAs in high school and higher ACT scores. Typically the people that barely get in will flunk/drop out after their first or second semester. Once you enter major specific courses there are a lot of intelligent people that are the same caliber as many of the other bigger state universities.

One previous post stated many of the professors don't have PhDs, but that has not been my experience. In the business school, I can only think of two professors that do not. Those professors' career experience in the business arena more than offset their lack of post-MBA education. The courses are not overly difficult, but are still challenging to most people. I have not had any difficulty landing a job after graduation at a sought after company in NE Kansas. I work alongside and was hired over other graduates of K-State, KU, Wichita State, etc. Career Services on campus provides a lot of great resources in helping students find internships, part-time, and full-time employment. Also, the professors in the business school are well-connected with local employers seeking full-time and internship candidates. The opportunities abound at Washburn if you go in with an openmind, network with professors, and do the work.

4th Year Male -- Class 2008

Campus Maintenance: A+, Useful Schoolwork: B-

I was extremely pleased with my time at Washburn University as a student with a major in History. I was able to graduate with a BA in History successfully during my time as a student at this University. I made many friends in class and outside of class including room mates and friends in the on campus dorms and on campus housing (apartments). I reccomend Washburn University for its small classes, wonderful faculty, and interesting campus activities. Also, They were very helpful with students with learning disabilities especially of which I took advantage of while I was there. I was accepted unconditionally as a student in my freshman year and was able to go through a semester first and passes the first semester grading period with good grades and I was accepted as a student for the rest of the time I was at this school.
