The overall quality of the school is god on paper. Mercyhurst pushes a lot for the illusion of things. the realities are for the most part, bleak. school funds aren't used for the students, they're used to plant flowers on tour dates. when something breaks, (which isn't unusual cause it's all cheap and old) more than likely, you will be blamed for it, and they will squeeze you for as much as they can. friends of mine were reamed for over 300 dollars for thier room last year. granted, it was in a bit of disarray, but one, it was not anywhere near that bad, two, half the stuff broke on its own, and three, these are college kids, whose parents are already shelling out a huge amount of money for thier children, and you still want more money? parking lots are falling apart and inadequate, and there are minimal activities. student government is a joke, and if you want to try and change it, make sure you kiss up to someone high up on your first day there, otherwise you'll get nowhere. even when govenment actually comes close to doing somethign worthwhile, like ending the archaic practice of curfews in the freshmen dorms, or changing the hours of the library or gym, the board usually quashes them, cause to be honest, they don't care about the students. they come to the student forum, pay lip service, then drive thier mercedes home, while the students wander to broken-down drafty depressing dorms and apartments. food is lousy, but due to the lack of an actual city, there's no other option. you'd be better off cooking yourself. erie is not so much a city as it is a dried out hopeless relic of american industry. good luck finding a coffee shop, a local music scene, or anyone not dating thier cousin. as far as a social scene on campus, forget it. the only avenue of entertainment is buy some cheap beer and have cheap sex with some stranger. or sit at home and contemplate what your friends who chose other schools are doing, cause you know it's gotta be better than this. however, it must be noted that the proffessors are really top notch. i mean the proffessors, not the priests that assume a holier than thou stance from day one. a lot of them are more than willing to talk to students one on one, and develop a real relationship. is this worth all the money they demand? depends on who you are-are you an abercrombie upper middle class white kid? you'll fit right in. any who deviates from this is pretty much ignored and exist as spectres on campus, wishing they had gone somewhere else.
