My education itself was reasonable and thorough at the time I attended. The programming languages were a bit behind and the computer equipment was well over five years old. Computer Science students were not allowed to directly work with the mainframe that ran the department which inhibited our level of learning. We were not taught admin level duties which would have helped us later. At the present PCC does not allow internet access to their students through dialup or other means. Email is only allowed in very special cases where the student's parents live out of the country. Without proper internet access it is impossible to keep up with the latest in the information technology world. Having to rely on paper periodicals in the library does not cut it. Especially when students are not allowed to visit any other library except for the one at PCC. The public library and other university libraries are off limits. If a student could put up with the restrictions on their personal lives and with the lack of accreditation, the quality of the computer science education severely lacks even though the teachers are very good. |
