W&M is a great place with an interesting student culture. On average, there are some very very smart people here. If you're looking for interesting people to talk to, learn from, and live with, this is the place. Along with that, though does come a little less on the social end. Its true, that frequently people study on the weekends, pull all-nighters to finish papers, and go nuts over final exams. But you have to: Classes are are exceptionally challenging.

W&M is a place where history has been made, and continues to be made. A few months ago, a group of students co-founded the first student-run PAC in Virginia, and now they're going state-wide, starting chapters at other colleges. These guys raised money, ran radio ads, and registered a thousand voters for a state-wide referendum for higher education funding. Thats the kind of thing I love about this place: People are interested in tackling big problems and they are willing to put the time into doing it.

The faculty here are some of the best I can imagine exist. They know their stuff, arent afraid to answer the tough questions, and are always available outside of class. I call a number of my profs by their first name, and thats just fine here. Last month, when I had missed class for a number of political events surrounding the PAC I mentioned before, my professors were helpful and accepting of the fact that having lunch with the Governor to talk about the College's funding was more important than missing class… there's a real sense of priorities.

I went here because it wasnt close to home (I'm from CT), and I'm going to stay in VA because the people I've been lucky enough to work with are the same people I want to work with 10 years from now.
