Many first-year students are unhappy with the sometimes less-than-exciting night life; they expect party after party. The longer a student stays, they typically learn to appreciate the close friendships/intimate gatherings that results from the small town/small college atmosphere. Across the board, students are dedicated and received by a faculty that is devoted to them and always willing to listen to a fresh perspective. However, many professors expect students to initiate specific academic challenges (like internships, senior projects) and will refuse to dictate programs to advisees, so new students should enter with the attitude that they need to determine what they want their academic program to look like and tell their advisor what they explicitly would like to gain from their education. Once told, most advisors will happily aide to students to accomplish their program.
