I was in the scholars program, and I think the University has done a great job of making sure that all students have communities if they want them. There are active, vibrant student groups and organizations. I was lucky to be an individual studies major, where I worked closely with a professor to chart my own academic course (which I looked for as a high school senior - I did not like the idea of someone else deciding what classes I should take). While Maryland is big, it is possible to find a place for yourself. I enjoyed the anonymity of a large campus on a daily basis - there is always someone new to meet! I think if you are friendly and willing to try to meet people, either in the dorms or through organizations, you will have a successful experience at Maryland. GO TERPS! |
