I believe that Alma College has helped me to become very successful, thus far. I do not agree w/ some of the comments made by previous students, but i do respect them. I feel that Alma is a unique college and it is what you make of it. You have to make an effort. No one is going to come up to you and give you the candy. Once you show the initial interest the people (faculty / administrators) will go way above and beyond. I think this holds true for most places. Yeah, probably 6 out of 10 people are involved in greek life. However, they do not act snoby towards those who were not in a greek organization. I know this because i did not rush, and, I had many friends in the greek system. Also, i was one of those people who over achieve. That's just me. My philosophy is that you have to give a little to get a little. I will agree that Alma is in a boring place, but you know what that's ok. I am orginally from the inner city of Detroit and I am used to having a lot of things to do. Alma was boring for the first month. It was because i couldn't do all the things i was used too. However, Alma opened my eyes to new opportunties. I never really appreciated the fine arts much, but after going to some of the student art shows i began to take interest. Also, i went to a lot of speakers, few parties, and got myself involved in 4 organizations which most i held some executive position. It was really a learning experience for me. I got to meet a lot of people from small farming areas who think differently from most people that live in urban areas. Overall Alma was great. By the way no matter what school you go to there will be people who graduate that will work at mcdonalds… i.e., my friend who graduated from u of m ann arbor works at payless shoe store. I'm not trying to knock u of m because i have so much respect for that school, (in fact i may be appying to their law school in two years)but seriously people need to understand that it is not just Alma.
