They constantly lied to me about my status (lost my placement exam scores, lost my financial aid information, etc.) and administrative people never returned my calls in a timely manner. Be very careful and make sure you abuse the "resources" they give you. If you have a problem, keep harrassing the faculty until someone helps you. Every time I had a problem that I needed someone at the administrative offices to help me with, they didn't seem to take me seriously and didn't seem to want to help. You MUST be aggressive at Rutgers. You can't get lost in the crowd like I did my first few years. Stay focused and keep vigilantly in touch with your professors, your TAs, your dean, and your advisors or you'll get sucked under. In general, I had a horrible experience at Rutgers because people in the administration lied directly to my face or wouldn't return my calls. Don't let it happen to you. As for advice on what to do to get into RU: Clubs clubs clubs. Join clubs in high school. You don't need the greatest SAT scores or top honors. They are very interested in well-rounded, outgoing students and you need to be very sociable (but focused on your education goals) in this environment. |
