Although UMCP is largely a commuter school, there are more than enough students living on campus to make things fun and interesting. It is amazing how many clubs and extra-curricular activites there are on campus. However, don't expect opportuities to drop on your lap; you actually have to be independent enough to look around and find activities that you enjoy. The student body is extremely diverse. This means that you'll be able to make a lot of cool friends. I have to admit that since I live around the area, a lot of my firends also came to this school. Even so, I rarely spend too much time with them. The academics here are pretty easy - at least for the first semester. Most of the material in your first few classes are almost like a review from high school. I'm sure things will get much tougher in the semesters to come. As for the social scene at Maryland, I find it fairly decent. The school tries to sponser events every now and then, but the majority of the fun comes from partying. There are parties almost every night and a lot of people drink here at Maryland. I personlly don't drink - and I don't feel like I'm loosing out on anything. There are so many other things to do on campus. The most important thing is to try to get involved. Find a group that you are interested in. Find a group of people that you feel comfortable to be around. I have only spent a few weeks here at Maryland and I love this school! It is awesome. Sports are always a highlight. If you come here, you definitely have to see a football or basketball game. As for right now, I couldn't imagine going to another school. This is a great place to be. Go Terps! |
