Brown offered me the opporunity to cover a broad range of subjects, and to dive deeply into those that interested me most. The flexibility of its curriculum had a significant effect for me and my classmates - by enrolling in courses we wanted, we learned the material more passionately rather than memorizing it as a duty. As a result, nearly 15 years away from College Hill I still remember what I learned in many of my classes, mainly because I learned how to think and analyse.

Practically all of the courses I took were worthwhile, and many were outstanding; from my ongoing involvement with the university and its students and alumni, I understand that this is still the case. With all professors teaching undergraduate courses, the focus is on teaching over research which benefits the undergrads to no end. Plus, there were and are plenty of opportunities to increase the educational experience beyond the classroom, both in professor's ample office hours as well as more social gatherings.

Of course, the freedom the college offers requries some discipline, but if one is proactive, (s)he can find the assistance and guidance needed to make the most out of Brown.

Brown is not for everyone, but it is a great school and for some people a perfect match.
