Tulane has a clear vision for it's future and few things will get in it's way. They seek smarter classes and more money. Image is everything. After admission, contact with the administration is minimal. Speaking from my personal situation, the advising is abominable. But then again, this school is not for those who need people looking after them. If you can discipline yourself, this university has a lot to offer. If you are prone to becoming distracted, you couldn't make a worse decision than choosing Tulane. Here, you are entirely independent. Nobody cares how you spend your time, if you can get your work done, or if you're failing out. You'll be on your own at Tulane, which yeilds many other opportunities. The university provides countless extracurricular opportunities…if you want to do something, ANYTHING, it can be done. Life in New Orleans revolves around drinking. The university more-or-less endorses drinking. As a freshman, one of my professors took the entire class out to a bar one day (just to give an idea of the culture and lifestyle). Prepare to spend TONS of $$ on the tuition (which I find to be absolutely ludicrous), the housing (it's actually cheaper to live off campus), and the booze. For those who might be looking for a southern-feel, Tulane is most definitely NOT the place. I was hoping to come across some true southern belles here, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The university is nearly entirely Jewish and everybody is from the North. Freshman housing sucks. Freshmen cannot have cars. The nightlife is great, however it revolves mostly around the frats. But on the plus side, Tulane has a good name and has a strong academic program…as long as you can get your work done. Do NOT underestimate the commitment that must be made to academics.

In short, come to Tulane if: 1) you want to go to school with Northerners and be assaulted by the Hillel on the way to class; 2) if you want to party 5 nights a week; 3) if you can handle your own schedule and keep after yourself; 4) you seek a reputable name and strong education; 5) you want to travel and/or study abroad; 6) you can afford it; 7) you want the freedom to do whatever the hell you want.

Do NOT come to Tulane if: 1) you are looking for a "community feel"; 2) you want attractive girls with morals and whom were brought-up well; 3) you cannot deal with snobby kids; 4) you are not looking for pot laced with chemicals; 5) you cannot manage your time well; 6) you think it's an endless party and you can B.S. your way through college.
