It is not surprising to see the number of people mentioning the guy/girl ratio, importance of Greek life, or overall difficulty. The ratio is true, although I must say it appears to be improving; the real problem for guys here is that often times they assume that all attractive girls have TBS and are too afraid/inexperienced to make the right moves! Furthermore, most of the "pretty" girls have little individuality as a result of joining sororities, making it difficult for guys to distinguish one from another; maybe this is why there seems to be such a shortage. Guys-I feel for you! Secondly, my view is that if you are a guy and want to meet girls-please join a fraternity. The costs are definitely worth the benefits in that you have more to do, more overall support, and definitely many more opportunities for girls. Why? Because girls are looking for guys with a little confidence and some degree of a social life, which at Tech, is rare only because people set themeselves up for failure at it. Girls-it is completely unneccessary to join a sorority unless you have no other girl friends or enjoy the company of other bitchy/annoying/conformist individuals. Embrace the idea of being GDI (i love it). Depending on what you prefer, it is bullshit that going here makes your life boring…YOU make your life boring. I have had many great times at Tech; it is just taking the time to find stimulating things to do besides the conventional get drunk every night/party hard standard most people envision for college. Don't get me wrong, you can find that too, but if you are creative, you will have a much better time. As for level of difficulty: I have experienced a wide spectrum of classes, and I must say that often times it is not the difficulty but the boringness of the material that causes people to fail. Don't major in engineering or dream of going to medical school unless you truly like what you are learning about! Most times, my grades suffer only because lectures are too boring to attend and coursework is so meaningless to me that I would rather sleep than open my books. Good time management and contentment with your major are the keys to success at Tech.
