It has a huge inferiority complex because it was many people's safety school, and because campus is isolated and boring, weather is drowsy at best, and inferiority complexes are catching. It builds from year to year. I can't wait to get out of here, although I've been treated remarkably well while here. Music profs are GREAT I can't say enough about my department—i LOVE it. Living in Newing was fine because I was in Special Interest Housing for music, which rocked… but other than that Newing is a scary place. Not a great welcome for a freshman. You've definitely got to look for the right kind of people, because there is a huge variety of people in terms of ethnicity, interests, abilities and personalities—and they tend to segregate so you can live quite comfortably (or miserably) in your own little world if you don't reach out. My problem with Bing is that it's too casual for me. I want really really intense academia and have not found it consistently here, outside of my major. Also I want intense classmates and friends, which are hard to find. I'm not sorry I made a decision to go here but I've learned a lot about what I need in the world from my experience here. |
