The faculty are half and half brilliant professors and arrogant/ignorant self-absorbed idiots. The academics are not the best in general, although that does differ somewhat depending on the department. However, if you are trying to leave the high school social environment do not expect that at Jewell. The maturity level of many students here is that of a freshman in high school. Gossip abounds. There is a lack of diversity in any respect as well as culture. The Harriman Arts program is the only thing that brings culture in a big way to the Jewell campus, but few people even take advantage of this. The only way Jewell will expand your horizons is if you grew up in a very sheltered household or an incredibly (we're talking in the hundreds) small town. Otherwise, yeah, don't do it. Just go to MU, or KU, or Truman. Don't like those options? Leave the state! |
