The school is full of preppy, self absorbed WASPs who don't give you the time of day unless you're dressed in your best ralph lauren polo and patagonia fleece. Almost all parties are Greek related and fraternities and sororities make themselves the center of everything. The town sucks, the weather sucks, the academics are great, but the place is so depressing that it draines all enjoyment out of living. Being from a working class background, coming to Hamilton was a huge wakeup call—one that I wish had never happened. The people who enjoy Hamilton hail from upper-middle class Connecticut suburbs, drive better cars than my parents, and booze their brains out at least 3 nights a week. The greek system is corrupt and disturbing and eating disorders are (in my opinion) a huge problem. Though the majority of the people may be very accepting and non-judgemental, there are few groups on campus who are extremely discriminatory against gays/lesbians and minorities. Basically, if you want to go somewhere to drink for 4 years of your life than Hamilton is the place for you…but even the most avid partiers tend to get bored here. The social scene is lame and monotonous. Overall, the school is great, but living there for 4 years is unbearable. |
