The students are ultra-conservative. The student body is not diverse. Most everyone is a upper middle class and from somewhere within 500 miles of Atlanta. The faculty is amazing; however, if you wish to not be surrounded by conservative close minded southern baptists, i suggest you steer clear from this institution. Furman cares very little about morality as an institution, yet they preach all the time. One male hit a female this year and recieved little punishment, yet one can be caught drinking and be suspended from the university. This university is a sham. It purports to be a legitimate institution; however, if one is truly serious about education and desires the ability to learn critical thinking then furman is not the school for you. The little diversity creates a nearly uniform existence of WASPs on campus. The insidious Southern Baptist values permeate almost all campus activity. This school is more like church camp than a university. Walking across campus, one hears more praise songs than laughter. I have been in hell and nothing makes me gappier than to depart from this "bubble." Seriously think twice (or ten times over) before committing to this tragic excuse for a college education. |
