I should start this review by stating that I have a jaded sort of perspective, because the longer you remain sedentary, the less new and fresh your surroundings will seem, and I grew up in a suburb twenty minutes away from Temple. I knew prior to my experience there that I'd more than likely opt to transfer eventually, and that's what I'm in the process of doing now.

I don't hate Temple, as many others do, by any means. It is accomodating enough, especially considering its affordability. The quality of education, at least in the school of communications, is almost irreproachable. There are some great professors and the TA's are there for you when other faculty members are too busy. I have heard a lot of complaints about administrators and such, mostly negligible.

If you ask me, the problem here does not lie in the school itself, but its disgruntled and Philly-indurated student body. Philadelphia can be a hard place to live. When you're under 21, there is next to no night life downtown. So what do Temple kids do? We look for on-campus parties - to no avail. Parties at Temple either get busted or never really take off in the first place. The only decent parties I have been to in my two years at Temple were off-campus at friends' houses, and my sophomore year at the house I rented with some friends in South Philly (by Lincoln Financial Field).

If you're the type of person who enjoys the company of a few good friends as opposed to big crazy parties, Temple might be the right choice for you. But if you like to get out and meet new people on a fairly regular basis, look elsewhere because the vast majority of students are commuters, and on the rare occasion that someone in one of the nicer dorms throws a party, they will be very selective about who they let in for fear of getting busted (of course this problem is often solved by taking a girl to a party with you).

Another grievance is that it's very tough to meet a girl at Temple unless you wanna do something really ballsy, like asking the girl who sits next to you in class, who you don't know and who probably lives with her parents somewhere forty-five minutes away, what she's doing over the weekend - because you probably won't see her around anywhere unless you make some plans with her.

So, the long and short of it is, Temple is a good place to get an education, but where many other aspects of life are concerned, it is just not up to par.
