Valid Email Address It's been said, I don't see how this place could be worthwhile if you're out-of-state, unless you get tons of aid or are in SOM. I'm here because UMass costs me 1/4 of what the other schools I got into would. Freshmen housing retarded my social life (Sylvan, anyone?), and there are countless other areas where UMass will try to screw you. Try, if you can, to design your own major... one class of B.S. but then you pretty much tell them what you need to do to graduate. And take advantage of the five colleges. The best class I've taken so far was at Smith (don't be scared... can we say grade inflation??) The upside of the budget cuts is that many professors are pissed off and try to cut corners and make books cheap. Of course, many more just give up. Don't be tricked by how big the campus supposedly is, if you're from the 'burbs. Never does a day go by when I see less than four people from my high school, whether in big lectures or in the DC, or even living across the damn hall. In all, if you're the least bit bright and from suburban Boston, get out! Explore the rest of the country! Take a risk! I sure wish I had. And if you're from out of state, don't waste your money, especially on the liberal arts (if any departments survive the next few years...) |
