I would suggest that anyone thinking about going to Wheaton College seriously think twice about why they're going there. If it's to get Christian profs, I ask why you fear being taught by non-believers. Is your faith living and strong enough to withstand a little trial? To put it bluntly, the relations between the administration and the students sucks. The dean of male students is probably the most reviled man on campus. If you ever meet him, you'll understand. The students here tend to be generally nice to your face, but reticent and judgmental behind your back. If someone has a problem with you, you'll probably never hear about it from them. Kids here also have a nasty penchant for ratting each other out. Because of the rules and the history at Wheaton, any "deviant" behavior you engage in will throw serious doubt as to the state of your soul to your fellow students. Plus side: Chicago is under an hour away by train. In short: come here if you have to, but it had better be for a good reason. "I wanted to have Christian professors" is not a legitimate reason for everyone. Go somewhere you'll be challenged in your life and your faith. Wheaton won't do either. |
