Stay within the "Red Brick Wall". There is no life in Lynchburg beyond it. Bring a car - UVa [co-ed] & Hampton-Sydney [all boys] are not too far way by car. In four hours you can be in DC or Virginia Beach. At least there is always something to do on campus and don't think "Woman's College" doesn't mean boys won't be around. They are around just not in class. Bring a laptop, but please for the love of I.T. please install, regularly update, & fequently use Norton AntiVirus BEFORE you arrive on campus. Your viral infected computer taking down the campus network will not endear you to I.T. and you might need their help someday. There are some Wi-Fi hotspots on campus and every dormroom has one dataport per occupant. Each student only gets 350 pages in her print balance each semester, so bring a printer, learn to print only what you really need to, or be prepared to buy pages before the semester is over.Be prepared to write, write, write. Learn to type fast, it saves time. Listen carefully in class. Assignments and associated deadlines are sometimes spoken and if your are not paying attention, you may find yourself missing assignments that you never knew existed. [I pay attention and I don't miss them.] This is especially true in the English Department. [When a professor says (s)he wants your topic and thesis by a certain date and time, (s)he is not making a suggestion, (s)he means have it done before then.] |
