Attending HSU proved to be the best experience of my life! I grew as a person and did get the intellectual stimulation I wanted from an educational experience. Because the approach to education is far from traditional, the faculty differed significantly but all held the same common theme of being close to the students and many even personally inviting students to their homes to continue the learning experience. The courses mostly utilized a hands on, direct practice approach where much group work and lecture combined for the ultimate experience. The fact that most faculty aim to "teach themselves out of a job" shows that they do care about how prepared you leave the school. Everything I learned translated into my work and continues to do so even today in my graduate experience. The laidback environment, green attitude toward natural resources, and the acceptance of all people are some of the unique aspects of the Humboldt experience. This is the type of place you either love or you hate. I never felt at a loss for things to do ranging from nature to a night life. There was so much more to do there in the small towns than in my big city of 310,000 people right now. The neighborhoods were safe and everybody calm and mellow as can be. There is no better sanctuary for a student than HSU because it provides the perfect environment for study and the weather can be quite fascinating. It seemed to cycle 2 days off three days on with rain, but remained mild to temperate year round. This place is one to consider despite the remoteness. The friendships you make will come and go, but no matter what you will continue to feel connected to your HSU classmates.
