When I first arrived in College Station, I was excited and thrilled about everything (classes, athletic/school traditions, etc) - I am now and Aggie! However, I quickly found myself feeling very isolated (i.e in both school and town). Most of my freshman classes had 300+ students - wow! The professors and/or TA's (most of the time) wore microphones in order to be heard. And, even that was not enough, as there were so many distracitons (e.g. other student talking during lecture). I am a very outgoing/extraverted person and I found it difficult to break into the "clicks!" It was as if these groups had all come to school together (same hometown) and were reluctant to accept others. This was not what I imagined the college experience to be! The campus is huge, and I had to purchase a bike to get to my classes on time. I began to fall out of love with A&M - I was just a number among many! I spoke to others and they felt the same way. I then began to make my transfer plans. After two semesters, I transfered to an urban state university and loved it! I found diversity and a much more welcoming faculty and student body. Also, I had more great professors (vs TA's) teaching classes. In the city, there was no shortage of things to do! Coming from a mid-size central Texas town, I found Houston to be exciting! Also, internship opportunities with major corporations are numerous! You don't have that in College Station; at least not as many! HS students should really think hard about just what they want in a college experience! I choose to get off of the farm!
