My parents both attended the universtiy and I was always expected to enroll there after high school. I was young and imature, without much motivation, so I went to BJU. I appreciate some of the character building traits I received from the university. I also appreciate the introduction of culture (classical music and theatre) that broadened my narrow outlook as a teenager. However, I have been working for over 25 years to rid myself of many of the negagives I picked up from the school. The leagalistic lifestyle, the religious elitism, the lack of opportunity to make your own decisions, and the over all suspicion anyone who does not agree with me are but a few of the pieces of baggage I have successfully rid myself of from since I graduated.

I must admit tht academics were not much of an issue for me because of my immaturity and youth. I changed my major several times and graduated a semester late. However, I have done very well in my post graduate experiences - to which I give equal credit to just growing up and to the foundational academic skills and work ethic I received from the university.

Since graduation I earned another undergraduate degree from an accredited school, as well as a masters from a state institution. I have done well in my profession and have advanced at an appropriate rate. I married a beautiful lady (with strong Christian beliefs) from another denomination. I belong to an effective, evangelical church from a denomination that the school would not agree with. My children will not be encouraged to attend the school, but will not be banned by me if they choose to go. I highly doubt they will do that. To make a long story short, I have escaped many of the legalistic bonds the school placed upon me. I enjoy my life and believe God is using me daily to further his will. I'm not worried about whether I attend a movie, have a glass of wine, dance with my wife, or even miss church once in awhile. I am continuing in my daily walk with the Lord and enjoy being with those who may not agree with everything I believe. This has challenged me to strengthen my own beliefs. I have never felt more free in my faith and look forward to the future. While this

world is not my home
I am enjoying facing its challenges and appreciating the God inspired beauty and human culture of our temporary home.

I do not openly bash BJU because I recognize some of the good things I received while there. Please check out the school before attending. While I believe it may be a good place for some, it can be very negative for others.
