I guess I would say I was a non-traditional student. I did my 1st year at UT-Austin, transferred to UH for my 2nd year because my mother was ill and in the hospital and I had to take care of her, then I transferred back to UT-Austin for my 3rd and 4th years- where I graduated from. I'm not going to lie. I did not want to attend UH, but I had to because of my mom's sickness- my mom lives in Houston. I don't know, maybe I was spoiled by UT-Austin, but I just could not stand UH. The quality of students at UH is a lot lower than UT-Austin. Moreover, the courses of the EE program were a lot less intense. Tests were easier, students were less competitive. I felt like the professors were reluctant to challenge the students here. I got a 4.0 both semesters at UH doing very little studying and homework. Seriously, I felt like I was in high school. This became a problem when I transferred back to UT-Austin, I found myself unprepared for upper level EE courses. In fact, I never made an A, in any UT engineering course afterwards. However, it wasn't just about the academics…Parking was a nightmare. Their was no sense of community among the student body. No school spirit, no school pride. It is a total commuter school- people would drive from Sugarland, Conroe, Kingwood, Woodlands, Cypress, Galveston, and all other areas of Houston and commute to school here. The party scene is a joke here. The frat scene is even more lame. In fact many of the frats were located at Greek Park at Bayou Oaks. Greek Park at Bayou Oaks was basically a collection of fake fraternities and sororities. It was so strange. It is a fascade, Bayou Oaks is an apartment complex badged as fraternity houses. You have to go their to know what I mean. On the positive end: classes were easier, proffesors were more approachable, and tuition was slightly cheaper.
