It is only blocks from The White House, Capital, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and countless other powerful governmental buildings or corporations. GW has great programs for people interested in journalism, and offers MANY incredible internships for its students. The professors are knowledgeable, and the dorms are very nice(HOVA even has a pool on the roof). Most people here are very affluent, but what can you expect at a private university? Some people are on financial aid, so it's fairly diverse socioeconomically, and GW is over 30% minority to add to the eclectic and interesting feel to the campus. The Basketball team is really popular, but most people here are not the jock types. There's plenty of partiers and people who are involved in student organizations, but Greek life is not really big on campus. I would say half the students are drinkers while the other half does their own thing. There's plenty of people to hang out with regardless of your preferences. If you are interested in Greek Life, it's totally unlike other schools in the US because they are more like service organizations and ways to meet people than ways to party. The university shut down SAE and some other fraternities who hazed, so there's no worries with the whole "binge-drinking" thing other colleges are experiencing. The student body is extremely hard-working and ambitious, which can be a pain sometimes if you're interested in running for virtually any elected office(especially the highly popular Student government). Some professors are brilliant, but I've had a couple who need to work on their English skills. The girls(not so much the guys) are japy and materialistic. However, they look nice and make the campus look hipper. There's plenty of people not like that, but be aware of that type. GW is a great school and it has been a great choice for me! |
