Howard University prepared me to go to work in the field of journalism. I was recruited from campus by a major metropolitan daily newspaper and went to work 10 days after graduation. I have only been unemployed once in the last 20 years and it was my choice. I've lived in three or four different states, and traveled to at least 25 while working as a journalist.

While at school I was pretty active. I worked on two newspapers, two magazines, three newsletters, student council, resident assistant, and maintained a 3.0 gpa, roughly. I enjoyed my college experience and credit it with giving me the ability to do what I want despite any obstacle.

Like most urban schools, Howard has its problems with city life. Like most big schools, Howard has its problems with administration and academics. Truthly, most schools in the country could stand to improve.

If you are considering Howard vs. some other school, you should realize that by telling prospective employers that you are a Howard graduate, they immediate expect excellence from you. The number of graduates from Howard who are exceptional in their fields means that employers expect that you have the capability to do wonders for their organization.

In addition, Howard will instill pride in yourself and your race, and it will give you the self confidence to compete based on ability.
