UC Davis has the highest level of student fees of all of the UC campuses - these are fees on top of the normal registration fees.Health care insurance is offered to all students at a cost of about $160 per quarter and the insurance is a good deal if the student is not covered by a parent. The bad part is that the Registrar’s offices tries to disguise the fact that the health insurance is not required if the student is covered by some other insurance. UCD seems content with the concept that they can collect money not owed to them as long as the parents are not paying attention - a mild form of stealing. This week 300 hundred students were dropped from classes because they failed to pay registration fees on time. Actually, what happened was that the Registrar’s office switched over to email (electronic) billing and they failed to adequately notify students and parents of the change. In fact they did not notify the parents at all - they said that communication to the parents was up to the students. One view is that lack of notification was simply another ploy on the part of the Administration to collect late fees and drop fees, which were both at a record total this quarter. If you send a child to UCD, expect aggravation - the University does not operate very well and has no concept of customer service. |
