Texas Tech is by far the up and coming university in the state of Texas even in a poor time for the public education system as a whole. The most surprising thing about Tech to me is how friendly the student body and faculty is as a whole. It boggles my mind to think how I have already finished 2+ years (with summer school thrown in) and will be well on my way to graduation with a undergraduate and graduate degree in a mere total of 5 years. I think Texas Tech University prepares the student for the "real world" and although Lubbock is not the most appealing city in the world, it does have a wide spread of income levels which is not only very eye opening but also enlightening. I think one of the things that prevents many students from going to Tech is the location of Lubbock. However, I would advise prospective students to not look at how far away Lubbock may be from your hometown (I graduated high school in Austin) because it is easy to drive on the low traffic roads and in some cases it's easier to buy a $39 one way each way ticket home on Southwest Airlines. The Lubbock airport is probably the easiest, hassle free airport I have EVER dealt with, and that’s saying a lot since my mom and dad moved every 1-2 years. |
